What is a golf tee time app?

A golf tee time app allows you to search for and book tee times. Tee time apps work similar to Yelp, but instead of searching for restaurants, you are searching for golf courses within a specified area. So, while you can still call your local golf pro shop to book a tee time, the ease and convenience of searching for new courses, finding the best deals, and booking your tee time in a matter of minutes from your phone all show why golf tee time apps are so popular.

What are the best golf tee time apps?

Here are my picks for the best golf tee time apps to help you find the best deals for the perfect tee time.

1. GolfNow

GolfNow is an online platform to book your tee times via mobile app or website. The GolfNow app is available on the Apple Store or Google Play and boasts more than 9,000+ courses throughout the US, United Kingdom, and Ireland. GolfNow has been around since 2001 and is owned by NBC Sports Group.

Features

The GolfNow app allows searches by course name or city, along with the proposed tee time date. Standard search results will show the course with a picture, distance from you, available tee time ranges (e.g., 6:30am – 2:30pm), price range (e.g., $49 – $155), star rating based on reviews, and whether any “Hot Deals” are available.

GolfNow offers a lot of discounts at various courses that it calls Hot Deals and indicates them in yellow with a little fire icon. Hot Deals are often offered during peak times of playing a round and therefore are always worth a shot to browse through. The Hot Deals are typically pretty substantial discounts, rather than just a few dollars off the round. In my search for a course to play in Palm Springs, a non-discounted tee time was $220, while a Hot Deal for the same tee time was $127 (that’s $100 savings!).

  • Customizable search filters (distance, # holes, price, # players, etc.)
  • Detailed course information (description, map, pictures, etc.)
  • Hot Deals
  • Course reviews
  • GolfPass subscription available for $99/year, which offers bundled benefits, including $10 anytime monthly tee time credits ($120/year value), GolfNow convenience fee waived on 10 tee times, and tee time protection on 10 tee times

User Experience

The GolfNow app is very user-friendly and easy to navigate. The interface is clean and intuitive. From the initial search results page, the amount of information is good to prompt clicking on the course to further research detailed information about the course (see screenshots below).

What I Like/Dislike About GolfNow

Likes:

  • Clean and user-friendly app
  • Fast loading times
  • Search results show 3 courses at a time (makes browsing quicker)
  • Tee times are modifiable or cancellable if 24+ hours advance notification
  • GolfPass bundled benefits ($99/year but if you play monthly it may be worth it)
  • Hot Deals

Dislikes:

  • Live chat support isn’t available
  • Golf course phone numbers not available

2. Supreme Golf

Supreme Golf is an online tee time search engine available via mobile app or online. Founded in 2011, the app is available on the Apple Store or Google Play and calls itself “the world’s most extensive inventory of golf tee times.” With an impressive 13,000 courses in 41 countries, it is hard to argue with their claim.

How does Supreme Golf have such wide reach? They use their own marketplace but they have also partnered up with the marketplaces of Barstool Golf Time – a collaboration between Barstool Sports and Supreme Golf. Supreme Golf also has the backing of CBS Sports Digital (an investor into Supreme Golf and a member of its board).

Features

Your can search by course name, city, or zip code. Before entering any information, the app asks what day you plan to golf with an accessible monthly calendar. A single search will show the course name, picture, rating, location, available tee time ranges, and the range of prices per player. If there is a discount offered at a particular course, a “Special” orange banner will show on the course picture. This is all helpful information at the outset so I do not have to click into each course if I know for sure I don’t want to play a course that ranges $20 – $40.

  • Customizable search filters (distance, price, # players, # holes, cart, etc.)
  • Detailed course information (description, pictures, course website, etc.)
  • Specials (discounts)
  • Course reviews

User Experience

Upon opening the app, you must first input the course or city in which you want to play. Oddly, before even typing the course name or city name, you are redirected to a calendar to pick which day you want to play. Then you are redirected to the city or course name search box. While time and place are both prerequisites to search results, the app guides you in an odd way right off the bat. From the initial search results page, course pictures and price ranges are clearly displayed to prompt further research.

What I Like/Dislike about Supreme Golf

Likes:

  • Amount of courses available on platform
  • Specials

Dislikes:

  • Only two courses shown on search results screen at a time (slows browsing)
  • Load times can be slow
  • Clunky initial search because course name takes you to date screen

3. TeeOff

TeeOff is an online platform to book tee times that is available via mobile app or online. TeeOff was founded in 2009 and is available on your mobile app via the Apple Store or Google Play.

TeeOff is actually a sister company of GolfNow. In 2019, NBC Sports Group, which owns GolfNow, acquired EZLinks Golf (parent company to TeeOff).

Features

The TeeOff app allows searches by course name or location, along with the proposed tee time date. Standard search results will show the course with a picture, distance from you, available tee times, price, star rating based on reviews, and whether there are any “DEAL Times” available.

TeeOff offers DEAL Time and indicates them in a green little coupon banner. The DEAL Times are a little hard to compare to regularly priced tee times (to see if you are getting a good deal) because some courses only show the DEAL Times, but not the regularly-priced tee times. Another great selling point for TeeOff is that there are no booking fees.

  • Customizable search filters (distance, # holes, price, # players, etc.)
  • Detailed course information (description, map, pictures, etc.)
  • Course reviews
  • DEAL Times
  • No booking fees

User Experience

Being a sister company to GolfNow, the design when initially searching for a course is similar. The apps’ overall aesthetics is darker than GolfNow (black background compared to GolfNow’s white). The load times seem slower than GolfNow (similar to Supreme Golf). The interface is also a little too big and bulky for my taste. When you search through results, you can only see one full course at a time, which prevents scrolling through courses quickly. The app also does not allow quick scrolling down the page – it will momentarily stop at each course before allowing you to continue scrolling.

What I Like/Dislike about TeeOff

Likes:

  • Easy to navigate initial search page
  • Detailed course reviews
  • DEAL Times
  • No booking fees

Dislikes:

  • Only one course shown on search results screen
  • Slow load times
  • Doesn’t allow quick scrolling
