In this article, we provide an in-depth review of the Mizuno BR-DX 14-Way Hybrid Stand Bag. The BR-DX 14-Way Hybrid Stand Bag is one of the best crossover hybrid golf bags, combining the best of a cart bag with a stand bag. The BR-DX 14-Way Hybrid Stand Bag is a versatile hybrid golf bag with exceptional good looks. Below we breakdown our experience with the BR-DX 14-Way Hybrid. To see how it stacks up to the competition, check out our article on the best hybrid golf bags.

Dividers

The BR-DX 14-Way Hybrid has 14 full length dividers. For the golfer that prioritizes club organization, 14-way dividers are the way to go. Besides organization, the main benefit of full length dividers is the ease of getting clubs into and out of the bag. For example, in a 5-way or 7-way divider, there are only 5 or 7 slots to fit 14 clubs. When more than one club is in the same slot, they can become tangled and get stuck, especially when the grips get stuck together. With a 14-way divider, each club has its own individual slot making organization easy.

Pockets

The BR-DX 14-Way Hybrid has an impressive 14 total pockets, including a fleece-lined valuables pocket and insulated drink pocket (with drainage). The fleece-lined valuables pocket comes with a waterproof zipper, which is a nice added protection.

There are a total of two insulated drink pockets, one on the outside to hold your water bottle and one insulated zipper pocket. There is a somewhat hidden zipper pocket behind the hip padding that stores the rainhood, but you can add whatever “extra” padding you’d like there. One of the pockets I use the most is the the magnetic closure pocket that has fleece lining as well.

With 14 total pockets, there is no shortage of room for extra golf balls, tees, rangefinder, etc. While I am not sure if it is technically a “pocket,” the BR-DX 14-Way Hybrid has an umbrella holder, which is a great feature for those that live or play in rainy environments.

Strap

The BR-DX 14-Way Hybrid has a premium double strap (one strap for each shoulder). The BR-DX 14-Way Hybrid’s premium double strap evenly distributes the weight to both shoulders and the strap padding is the perfect thickness. A bonus feature on the BR-DX 14-Way Hybrid is that the strap comes with Quick Release Clips, which allow for easy and quick removal of the dual strap so that it doesn’t get in the way while strapped to a cart and riding. When removed, the dual strap can be stored in the full length apparel pocket.

Weight

The BR-DX 14-Way Hybrid weighs in at 6.6 pounds, which is a pretty average weight for a hybrid golf bag. However, if you consider that the BR-DX has 14 pockets, I would consider this pretty lightweight. While maybe not top of mind when researching hybrid bags, the overall weight should be considered because a heavy bag can easily dissuade you from wanting to walk and carry for a round.

Stand Mechanism

The stand mechanism for the BR-DX 14-Way Hybrid is sturdy and well-built. The stand legs are wide-profile so they provide solid support with a fully loaded bag. When the legs are retracted, the legs sit really close to the bag, which is a nice design feature and makes securing the bag to a cart easier and more secure. The legs can be secured to the bag by a rope loop when riding.

Comfort

Comfort is an overall category that combines carrying the golf bag on your shoulders, the strap system, the hip/back pad placement, the handles, and overall design of the bag. The BR-DX 14-Way Hybrid does not disappoint in any of these categories. When carrying on your back, the bag is comfortable and evenly distributes the weight of the bag across both shoulders with ample strap padding and hip padding.

In addition to the rubberized handle integrated into the top cuff, the BR-DX is designed with a bottom handle at the base of the bag as well for easy maneuvering, when needed.

The hip pad is well-placed and provides the right amount of pad thickness to make carrying the bag an enjoyable experience.

Premium Features

The BR-DX 14-Way Hybrid has many premium features that make this hybrid golf bag worth considering.

Cart Strap Tunnel

For days you choose to strap in and ride, the BR-DX 14-Way Hybrid will make it easy on you by utilizing the integrated cart strap tunnel. This “tunnel” is on the side of the bag and allows the golf cart strap to pass through the hole to secure the bag to the golf cart. This is a nice feature that typically is not available on a stand bag. The location of the tunnel is perfect and makes strapping your bag to a cart easy, giving you peace of mind that your bag is well-secured and won’t tumble off when you ride over a bump.

Removable Ball Pocket Panel

The ball pocket panel is completely removable so that you can get any type of embroidery or customization done.

Quality and Durability

Mizuno is primarily known for their amazing forged irons. However, the more Mizuno products I use that are not strictly irons, I am blown away by the craftsmanship and quality of their products. Here, the BR-DX 14-Way Hybrid is no exception. Not only is it high quality, but this bag is the best looking hybrid bag out of all the ones we reviewed.

The design of the bag is simple yet functional. From the zippers to the stitching, the bag feels very high quality. An area of concern for a lot of stand bags/hybrids is in the stand mechanism. The BR-DX 14-Way Hybrid’s stand mechanism is well-constructed and sturdy when the bag is empty or fully loaded. In short, quality and durability are not an issue for this Mizuno bag.
